Element of repetative frame construction
The main theme for this project was design for disassembly. The aim was to create flexible timber structures and design its potential life cycle. The program of the project was to create an extension to Aalto University’s workshop space, Paja, in the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Finland.
The project resulted in an only-wood permanent frame. With this frame consisting of modular frame elements, frames can be added or removed to construct buildings of various lengths, increasing the flexibility of future uses.
Pre-fabricated facade modules and flexible indoor slab elements can be added to the different needs and uses, allowing change and adjustment throughout the lifespan of the building.
